There is an error on this page. Look at the top. It calls for the 1995-1996 award winners, yet refers to the 1996-1997 Season. I have a Drammy for Best Set Design for “Angel Street” Portland Repertory Theatre. My name is Jeff William Incavo and my Drammy is dated June 17, 1996. The other nominations that year were: Victor Becker—The Road to Mecca—Portland Center Stage; Curt Enderle—All in the Timing—Portland Repertory Theatre; Karen Gjelsteen—A Midsummer Night’s Dream—Portland Center Stage; Jerry Mouawad—Samuel’s Major Problems—Imago Theatre Mask Ensemble. Could you please correct this issue?
Thank you, Jeff. It is great to hear from you. The records for those years and earlier are nothing if not incomplete, so it is great to receive corrections. We have been trying hard to piece things together. Huge apologies for any errors. It is an almost impossible undertaking. I will take a look at that year this weekend (I won’t have time before then) and at least make the corrections you have given me. If you or anyone else can shed further light, or help make up gaps, I would be extremely grateful. Cheers.
I have found the problem. My predecessor, who did wonderful work for this site, obviously had nothing to go on for 1995 to 1996 so simply used the model of the next year as a place-holder. I have found a newspaper clipping with nominees, but only a few of the finalists are indicated (by someone with red pencil in the margin). I will list the nominees when I can, and hope that you or someone else will be able to show the winners. Thank you again.
Huge thanks to Kaci Garcia, a nominee, for telling us that Emma Berman won the Young Performer award that year. Really appreciate the help, Kaci!
This was before I joined the Drammy Committee, but I remember several of these productions. Steffen Silvis was the Willamette Week reviewer in those days, and seemed to love taking the train out to Hillsboro for their shows.
Thank you to fellow nominee Tim Whitcomb for letting us know that Bruce Burkhartsmeier took the Supporting Actor Drammy.
Twelfth Night won Best Production
Thank you, Tony
If it still helps for the archives, I won Best Original play in 1996 for “Picasso in the Back Seat” at Artists Repertory Theatre. I also was nominated in 1995 for Best Supporting Actress in “Taming of the Shrew” at Tygres Heart Shakespeare Company and I won the same category in 1993 for the same company. All under the name D. Roberts.
Take care, Dmae Roberts
The archives are grateful! Thank you, Dmae!
Oh the 1995 supporting actor win was for Merry Wives of Windsor at Tygres Heart.
