DRUM ROLL PLEASE!

And I am sure that everyone will agree that the LOUDEST and most JOYFUL  possible drumroll is appropriate for this wonderful theatre person, who has agreed to be the MC for our 37th Drammy Awards Celebration on Monday 29 June, 2015, in the Newmark Theatre!

YES! You read that right! We are beyond delighted to announce that the amazing Dan Murphy will be Master of Ceremonies this year, in our brilliant new location!

You will be able to read all about Dan in the artslandia program for the event, of course. But for anyone new to the Portland theatre scene, here’s the potted history as provided by the man himself (though it does not begin to capture Dan’s outstanding talents and fabulous personality). In a nutshell…

Dan Murphy (along with his wife, Producing Artistic Director Sharon Maroney) is the founding General Manager of The Broadway Rose Theatre Company. They have been producing live theatre in Tigard since 1992.  He has directed and/or choreographed and occasionally appeared in over 45 productions throughout the company’s history.  He is a three-time Drammy award winner for directing, choreographing, and acting.  Some of the local companies he has worked with are Pixie Dust Productions, Lakewood Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, and Stumptown Stages.  Some other companies he has worked with but have since closed (through no fault of his) include Magdelyn Theatre Co., The Musical Theatre Co. and Portland Rep. Not only is his work known throughout the greater Portland area but it has taken him to Birmingham, AL, Sanford, NC, Fort Collins, CO, and Lancaster, PA, as well as the riverboats along the Willamette, Columbia, and Mississippi Rivers.

Dan is originally from New York, having grown up one of 11 children.  While pursuing an acting career in the Big Apple, and before heading west,  he appeared in more than 70 television shows, movies, and commercials beginning in high school as an extra for Love of Life at CBS television where his older sister worked in the production office.  Although much of his best work did wind up on the editing room floor, he does have the check stubs to prove it.

Dan is very active in his community, having served on the Tigard Chamber of Commerce Board of directors cumulatively for 8+ years over his 23-year membership serving as president 3 different times.  He has been a Rotarian in the Tigard noon club since 2002 and is very active in the Tigard/Tualatin School District, including working with the Tualatin High students directing/choreographing the musical for the past 13 years.  Dan also sits on the board of directors for The Washington County Visitors Association and the Portland Area Theatre Alliance.  He is a proud member of Actors Equity as well as SAG-AFTRA.

All of which is great and good and true, but, like I said, it doesn’t begin to capture Dan’s quick wit, sense of humor, effervescence…all those amazing qualities that make Broadway Rose audience members fall in love with him over, and over, and over again.

So! Read all about him in the ceremony program. But better yet, come see for yourselves on Monday, 29 June, 2015. We guarantee that in the hands of THIS master Master, you will have a wonderful time.
