This award is $2000 and will be announced at the Drammys on Monday, June 9, 2014. Details about the award are below. The deadline is March 14. Please see www.portlandcivictheatreguild.org for details and applications. We look forward to hearing from you!
The Mary Brand Award, $2000, is directed to individuals and programs that involve young people in theatre education as participants, observers, or students. The award honors Mary Brand who founded the Portland Civic Theatre Guild in 1958 as a way to assist the theatre. Among the programs sustained by Guild activities was the Portland Civic Theatre School which provided training to thousands of theatre students of all ages over several decades. Application deadline March 14, 2014. Please note: Be sure to use the correct PO Box as listed on the application.
This is what the award has done recently, to quote the Guild itself:
“In 2012 Portland Playhouse used the money for their Shakespeare in Schools Shakespeare Festival program, and last year Staged used the money to support their arts education program with the purchase of a full size portable digital piano with rolling case, foot pedal and adjustable keyboard bench. We really hope to help another deserving company this year.”
This is really a wonderful opportunity. So do apply now! You will be glad you did.
